Both Democratic Senator Ron Wyden and Republican‑aligned figures such as Steve Bannon argued that Trump’s close relationships with Silicon Valley firms have hampered the development of a basic AI regulatory framework. Bannon said there is “too cozy a relationship between the companies and the staff, not just in the White House but … in the national security apparatus,” while Wyden warned that “Trump has been AWOL because he thinks the billionaire owners of AI companies are on his side.” The criticism comes amid revelations that tech companies and executives have donated more than $300 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign and that industry insiders have been placed in key government posts.
