Donald Tusk clashes with Spanish PM over EU migration policy

During a recent European Council summit in Brussels, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk engaged in a sharp confrontation with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez regarding migration policy. Tusk, representing a coalition including Poland, Italy, and Denmark, advocated for much stricter measures to manage migration.

In contrast, Sanchez defended policies aimed at the legalization of undocumented migrants to facilitate integration and better oversight. Tusk criticized the Spanish approach, suggesting it jeopardizes European security and encourages illegal border crossings. The tension was reportedly high enough that diplomats described the exchange as nearly reaching unparliamentary language.

Additionally, Polish leadership has expressed concerns regarding security threats. Tusk noted that intelligence services from Poland, Ukraine, and allies suggest potential escalations in Russian diversionary activities before the Christmas period. This warning aligns with views from former security officials regarding increased hybrid pressure on European infrastructure and administrative targets.
