Donald Tusk seeks to override presidential veto on crypto assets law
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced plans to request that the Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, initiate a vote to override President Karol Nawrocki's third veto of the crypto assets market law. The legislation, originally passed by the Sejm in May 2026, has faced repeated presidential rejections in December 2025, February 2026, and June 2026. President Nawrocki has maintained that the current version of the law is poorly prepared and fails to provide adequate market protection, though he stated he would sign it if amended.
The legislative struggle is being intensified by the ongoing Zondacrypto scandal. Tusk has characterized the situation as a “well-organized system” rather than isolated corruption, alleging links between the crypto exchange and members of the Law and Justice (PiS) party and its affiliated media. Speaker Czarzasty has also urged the President to reconsider his stance, arguing that the regulations are necessary to protect citizens from fraud and risky entities.
While the government seeks to override the veto, the Sejm requires a three-fifths majority to do so, a high threshold that makes opposition votes critical. The Zondacrypto investigation remains a central point of political tension, with Tusk calling for political leaders to distance themselves from what he described as a “dirty business.”
