Donatella Buonriposi, prominent Lucca educator and politician, dies at 70

Donatella Buonriposi, a prominent figure in the educational and political landscape of Lucca, has passed away at the age of 70 following a long illness.

Buonriposi had a distinguished career spanning 41 years in the school system. She served as a teacher in the Garfagnana region, a principal at the Iti Fermi institute, and eventually led the interprovincial school office for Lucca and Massa Carrara. Beyond her professional role in education, she was deeply involved in local governance, serving as an assessor in the administration led by Mauro Favilla between 2007 and 2011, and later as a city councilor.

Her funeral was held at the Basilica of San Frediano, attended by a large crowd including local authorities, educators, and former students. Lucca Mayor Mario Pardini honored her memory, describing her as a “woman of institutions” who dedicated her life to the school system and the common good of the community.
