Donau-Ries hosts Sustainability Day to discuss regional energy transition
The second Sustainability Day for the Donau-Ries district took place on October 5 at the district office, focusing on how the energy transition can strengthen regional value creation and increase security of supply. Representatives from municipalities, business, energy supply, agriculture, and authorities gathered to discuss current developments in energy supply.
District Administrator Michael Dinkelmeier emphasized that the energy future is shaped locally within communities, businesses, and homes, noting that energy issues are closely linked to economic development and quality of life. Existing local projects, such as the heating network in Mertingen and the agri-photovoltaic plant in Oberndorf, were cited as examples of technical innovation and regional cooperation.
Experts provided technical insights during the event. Ludwig Karg discussed the opportunities of decentralized and community-based energy supply models, while scientist Thomas Haupt explained how modern Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) can efficiently manage electricity generation, storage, and consumption.
