Donau‑Ries tourism generates €203 million in regional revenue
A DWIF study presented on 16 July 2026 shows that tourism in the Donau‑Ries district generated a gross turnover of €203.3 million in 2024. The spending of visitors – €87.30 per day in private accommodation and €150.30 in commercial lodging – benefits hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, retailers, crafts and service providers. The total tourism value‑added of €93.6 million translates into an income equivalent for roughly 2,652 residents.
Key attractions such as the Kraterbad in Nördlingen and the upcoming Landesgartenschau 2028 in Donauwörth encourage longer stays and higher local spending. Landrat Michael Dinkelmeier emphasized that tourism “strengthens regional businesses, secures jobs and maintains quality of life,” while Klemens Heininger, managing director of Ferienland DONAURIES, noted that tourism is far more than leisure, providing economic perspective and future stability for the region.
