Donaustahl CEO lives in hiding due to alleged Russian assassination plot

Stefan Thuman, CEO of the German defense startup Donaustahl, has revealed that he is living in hiding under 24-hour protection due to an alleged assassination plot orchestrated by Russian military intelligence.

Thuman, whose company manufactures attack and reconnaissance drones and military drone software for Ukraine, stated in interviews with RTL and Stern that German authorities warned him of the threat in late 2025. He described the situation as a fight for his life, noting that he must constantly change locations and that his private life has effectively ceased to exist.

In March, authorities arrested two individuals characterized as ‘disposable agents’ who were reportedly spying on Thuman to prepare for the assassination. A German Member of Parliament cited by RTL indicated that preparations had progressed significantly and that the plot allegedly involved the use of a neurotoxic agent. Following the discovery of the threat, Thuman reported that he has prepared a will and an organ donor card.
