Doncaster shooting investigated after police report delayed by over 24 hours

South Yorkshire Police are investigating a firearm discharge that occurred in Doncaster early on 22 July 2026. A black SUV stopped on Paxton Avenue at about 02:55 am, and a gun was fired from the vehicle toward a residential home. No one was injured.

The incident was not reported to police until the following morning, more than 24 hours later. Detectives later arrested a 38‑year‑old man on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent and of arson related to a separate incident. He was released on police bail while the investigation continues. The force has appealed for information from the public, warning that the delay gave the shooter time to act again.

Detective Inspector Matt Barnes of the Armed Crime Team said the early stage of enquiries indicates the shooting happened well before it was reported and urged anyone with relevant details to contact police.
