Donegal man convicted of illegal dumping after letter found in rubbish

Arkadiusz Grygiel has been convicted in Letterkenny District Court following an illegal dumping incident at a recycling bank in Co Donegal. The investigation by Donegal County Council was triggered after bags of rubbish were abandoned at the Carnamuggagh Lower bring banks on June 19, 2025.

Investigators identified Grygiel after discovering a letter from the Department of Social Protection among the discarded items, which included his home address. Grygiel faced four charges under the Waste Management Act and the Litter Pollution Act, including the abandonment of waste and disposing of materials in a manner likely to cause environmental pollution.

Judge Emile Daly found the facts proven on all charges. Grygiel was issued fines of €200 for the first two counts and €250 for the fourth count, while the third count was taken into consideration.
