Joe and Donell Jones headline R&B Verzuz battle with surprise guests

R&B veterans Joe and Donell Jones participated in a highly anticipated Verzuz battle on August 20, framed by both artists as a celebration of their respective musical legacies rather than a traditional rivalry.

Donell Jones provided a significant nostalgic moment by bringing out the group 702 to perform “Get It Together,” a 1996 hit that Jones originally wrote and produced. Joe countered with high-profile guest appearances, most notably bringing out 50 Cent and members of G-Unit, including Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda, to perform “Wanna Get to Know You” and the “Power” theme song, “Big Rich Town.”

According to the official Complex scorecard, Joe secured a dominant victory in the matchup, winning 18 rounds to Jones' 2. The event featured various other musical highlights, including performances of hits by Mariah Carey, Nas, and Big Pun, as well as Jones' staples like “Where I Wanna Be.”
