Dong Nai authorities destroy nearly 3,000 pigs contaminated with Salbutamol

Authorities in Dong Nai have destroyed nearly 3,000 pigs found to be contaminated with Salbutamol, a prohibited beta-agonist substance used to accelerate weight gain. The destruction took place across five livestock farms following inspections that initially identified approximately 4,000 contaminated pigs at six different locations.

Approximately 1,000 pigs remaining at one farm have not yet been destroyed because the owner has not yet complied voluntarily. Officials are continuing to work with the farm owner to resolve the situation.

The Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development noted that the use of these substances to increase profits poses significant food safety risks to consumers. Authorities are currently finalizing documentation to transfer the case files for all six farms to the police for formal investigation and legal action.
