Dong Nai police charge pig farm owners for using banned Salbutamol
Police in Dong Nai City, Vietnam, have initiated criminal proceedings against two individuals, Ng. H. Th. (72) and D. Th. H. (50), for violating food safety regulations. The suspects allegedly used Salbutamol, a prohibited leanness-enhancing agent, in pig feed to rapidly increase weight for profit.
During an inspection on September 5, authorities discovered 2,349 pigs containing Salbutamol at the farm located in Tan An commune. The seized livestock weighed a total of 305 tons, with an estimated market value exceeding 15 billion VND. The suspects admitted to mixing the substance into the feed to accelerate weight gain before selling the animals to the market.
The incident has sparked public concern regarding the long-term health risks of consuming meat containing residual banned substances, with citizens calling for stricter controls on the sale and use of such chemicals in livestock farming.
