Dong Nai transfers pig contamination case to police

Authorities in Dong Nai have transferred the case files regarding nearly 4,000 pigs found to be contaminated with banned substances to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency for further investigation and handling.

Between July 28 and August 5, inspections conducted by the Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Police, revealed that pigs at six different farms were contaminated with Salbutamol. This substance belongs to the Beta-agonist group, which is strictly prohibited in livestock farming.

The investigation found that these facilities were not registered for livestock farming and primarily focused on fattening pigs. To achieve rapid weight gain, the banned substance was reportedly mixed into pellet feed for pigs weighing between 90 and 100 kg. Officials noted that these actions indicate violations of food safety regulations and pose significant risks to consumer health.

As of August 23, authorities have already destroyed nearly 3,000 pigs from five of the farms. Approximately 1,000 remaining pigs have been voluntarily destroyed by their owners, and officials are continuing their work to resolve the matter.
