Dong Thap allocates 330 billion VND to combat riverbank erosion

Dong Thap province has allocated approximately 330 billion VND to address 137 erosion points recorded since the beginning of 2026. These sites, totaling about 17.1 km, threaten residential areas, essential infrastructure, and transportation networks.

In Hiep Duc commune, erosion along the Ba Rai River has damaged sections of district road 64C. Local authorities have installed warning signs and are implementing repairs for segments totaling 276 meters at a cost of over 11.5 billion VND. The province is also prioritizing high-risk areas for immediate intervention and monitoring riverbank encroachment to protect flow spaces.

On a broader scale, the Mekong Delta has seen over 800 erosion points since 2016, spanning roughly 600 km. To combat this, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment plans to implement eight key projects in the Mekong Delta between 2026 and 2030, with a total investment exceeding 30,000 billion VND. These projects aim to upgrade irrigation, control saltwater intrusion, and reinforce sea and river dikes.
