Dong Thap farmers pump water to protect orchards from heavy rain

Heavy rainfall occurring between September 10 and 11 has caused flooding in various fruit orchards across Dong Thap province. Farmers are working urgently to pump water out of their fields to prevent long-term damage to crops.

In areas such as My Phong ward, growers of green-skinned pomelo are using pumps to drain water, as prolonged submersion can lead to yellowing leaves, root rot, and tree death. Similarly, in key dragon fruit growing regions, farmers are reinforcing embankments and deploying machinery to manage rising water levels. Many of these orchards are located within closed dike project areas, and local authorities have opened sluice gates to their maximum capacity to facilitate drainage and minimize the duration of the flooding.
