Dong Thap province khom prices double, boosting farmer profits

After a period of low prices, the market price for khom harvested in the Dong Thap Mữùi region of Vietnam rose sharply to between 9,000 and 11,000 VND per kilogram, roughly two to three times the early‑season level of 3,000‑4,000 VND. The higher price has delivered strong earnings for local growers. Farmer Bui Huu Thien, who harvested about 30 tonnes on 20 hectares, sold his crop at roughly 10,500 VND/kg, earning a net profit of about 5,000 VND per kilogram after costs. The price rebound follows a reduction in supply as the harvest season progressed, while demand remains high. Local authorities are also expanding a regional crop‑identification system, aiming to certify over 1,700 hectares by the end of 2026 to facilitate market access and export opportunities.
