Dongdaemun-gu holds lease fraud prevention consultations for students

Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul is conducting a two-day free on-site consultation program at the University of Seoul to help university students and young professionals prevent 'jeonse' (lump-sum deposit) lease fraud.

The initiative follows recent reports of unpaid lease deposits in the Hoegi-dong area. In collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korea Association of Realtors, and the University of Seoul Student Council, the program provides guidance on verifying property rights, checking for tax arrears, and understanding the adequacy of deposit amounts compared to market prices.

Experts will offer one-on-one consultations regarding lease agreements, special contract clauses, and procedures for responding to unpaid deposits. Additionally, the district office provides financial support of up to 1 million won each for litigation costs and housing stability funds for eligible victims of lease fraud.
