Donghai handcrafted nails enter Milan fashion scene
Handcrafted artificial nails from Donghai, China, are gaining recognition in the global fashion industry, highlighted by a special presentation during Milano Fashion Week. These products distinguish themselves from mass-produced disposable options by utilizing traditional Chinese techniques such as crystal carving, filigree, and enameling.
Designer Chiara Silvestri has collaborated with Donghai-based nail modeler Lu Jing to merge contemporary Western geometric lines with traditional Chinese artistic fluidity. The products often feature natural crystals sourced from Donghai, a region known as the ‘world capital of crystal.’
Li Xiao, general manager of Jiangsu Jingyiyi Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., noted that some elaborate sets can cost thousands of dollars. Designs inspired by cultural figures like Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, have also seen significant interest. Unlike standard manicures, these high-end sets are designed to be carefully removed, preserved, and reused.
