Dongjak-gu, Seoul, Expands Insurance for Disabled Electric Mobility Devices
Starting August 1, Seoul’s Dongjak District will automatically enroll registered disabled residents in a liability insurance scheme for electric wheelchairs and scooters. The policy raises the per‑incident compensation limit from 20 million won to a maximum of 50 million won and adds a new rider that reimburses up to 5 million won for attorney fees. A 200 000‑won co‑payment applies to each claim.
The coverage period runs from August 1 2026 through June 30 2027 and applies not only to disabled users but also to seniors aged 65 or older who operate registered medical electric devices, national veterans and long‑term care recipients. Accidents occurring outside Dongjak are also covered, and benefits are paid proportionally if the claimant holds overlapping insurance. District Mayor Ryu Sam‑young said the insurance “will lessen the financial burden of unexpected accidents for users of these essential mobility tools and supports the stability and welfare of disabled residents.”
Applications and inquiries are handled through WheelchairKorea.com, with additional support available from the district’s disability‑welfare office.
