Dongwon F&B adopts nitrogen filling for Yangban Gim

Dongwon F&B is implementing a nitrogen filling method, known as ‘Fresh-Lock’, for its Yangban Gim brand to mark its 40th anniversary and accelerate global expansion. This process reduces oxygen levels within the packaging and replaces it with nitrogen, which prevents oil oxidation and maintains the seaweed's crisp texture and flavor.

The innovation is specifically aimed at international markets where longer logistics periods can lead to sogginess. By combining this method with silica gel for export products, the company has extended the quality maintenance period from six months to twelve months. Additionally, the method allows for the reduction of approximately 300 tons of silica gel annually.

Yangban Gim, which has reached cumulative sales of 12 billion sheets, currently exports to approximately 30 countries, including Japan, Thailand, and the United States. The company has previously introduced eco-friendly packaging to reduce plastic waste and maintains quality through a specialized ‘raw material inspector’ system.
