Dongwon F&B and Professor Seo promote Korean seaweed culture

Dongwon F&B, in collaboration with Professor Seo Kyoung-duk of Sungshin Women’s University, has released a documentary video to promote the cultural significance of Korean seaweed, known as ‘gim,’ to a global audience.

The four-minute video, produced in both Korean and English, features narration by actress Park Ha-sun. It highlights various aspects of Korean food culture involving seaweed, such as the ‘bokssam’ tradition during the first full moon of the lunar year, where rice and vegetables are wrapped in seaweed to pray for health and good fortune. The content also showcases diverse seaweed-based dishes, including gimbap, gimjaban, and gimbugak.

This project serves as the second installment, titled the “Culture Edition,” in a three-part documentary series aimed at a global Hansik campaign. Dongwon F&B plans to follow this with a subsequent global edition focusing on the competitive value and market presence of seaweed in international markets. The company currently exports its Yangban brand seaweed to approximately 30 countries, including the United States, Japan, and Thailand.
