Donja Dubrava opens Palace of Međimurska popevka cultural centre
On 30 June 2026, Donja Dubrava in Croatia inaugurated the Palace of Međimurska popevka, a permanent interpretive centre dedicated to the region’s UNESCO‑listed folk song. The centre is housed in the 150‑year‑old Hirschler Palace, which underwent reconstruction and revitalisation starting in February 2025.
The project, costing €5.6 million, was financed almost entirely by European Union funds and supported by the Međimurje County, the local municipality and the regional tourism board. County governor Matija Posavec, mayor Damir Vidović and cultural officials highlighted the centre’s role in preserving the musical heritage of the Međimurje region and providing interactive, multimedial exhibits for future generations.
