Donna Vekic knocked out in Berlin after London title win

Croatian tennis player Donna Vekic, ranked No. 33, captured the WTA 500 title in London last week. The following day she entered the grass‑court tournament in Berlin but was eliminated in the first round.

Vekic lost 5‑7, 4‑6 to Philippines’ Alexandre Eala, who broke her serve twice in the opening set to take it 7‑5 and then secured an early double break in the second set to seal the match after a 1 hour 57 minute battle. The loss marked their third meeting, with Eala winning each encounter.

Eala advances to face Kazakh world No. 9 Jelena Ribnik in the next round.
