Donovan Carrillo wins gold at Tayside Trophy 2026 in Scotland
Mexican figure skater Donovan Carrillo won the gold medal in the men's senior category at the Tayside Trophy 2026 in Dundee, Scotland. Carrillo achieved a total score of 234.63 points, marking a significant comeback after trailing in the short program.
During the short program, Carrillo scored 73.51 points, placing him second behind Israel's Mark Gorodnitsky, who led with 81.54 points. Carrillo secured the championship during the free program with a routine inspired by Egyptian culture, earning 161.12 points—the highest score of that segment. This performance allowed him to surpass Gorodnitsky, who finished second with 217.46 points. Switzerland's Ean Weiler took third place with 196.41 points.
The victory is a personal milestone for the 26-year-old athlete, as it represents his highest career score to date. It also serves as an improvement from his 2023 appearance at the same event, where he earned a silver medal while competing on borrowed skates due to lost luggage.
