Don't Nod faces potential closure by early 2027 amid financial crisis

French video game developer Don't Nod, the creator of the ‘Life is Strange’ series, is facing a severe financial crisis that could lead to the studio closing by early 2027. The company's recent financial reports indicate a drastic drop in revenue, leaving the studio with material uncertainty regarding its ability to continue operations beyond January 31, 2027.

The crisis follows the withdrawal of financial support from Tencent, the studio's largest shareholder, earlier this year. Don't Nod has struggled to secure a new publisher or strategic partner to stabilize its accounts. Recent titles, including ‘Lost Records: Bloom & Rage’ and the sci-fi adventure ‘Aphelion’, failed to achieve the commercial success necessary to sustain the company's structure.

To mitigate the situation, the studio is preparing to lay off up to 90 employees at its French headquarters and is concentrating its European teams on a single production. Additionally, a secret project known internally as ‘P14’ has been halted due to a lack of guaranteed funding. The company has a limited window of approximately four months to secure new investment or a partnership to avoid collapse.
