Doon University students protest over alleged contaminated hostel food

Students at Doon University in Dehradun staged protests at the Alaknanda Girls’ Hostel after alleging that worms were found in their food. Protesters demanded accountability from the university administration and an investigation into food quality, citing concerns for their health despite paying for hostel facilities.

Following the demonstrations, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted inspections at the university hostels and canteens. Using a mobile food testing laboratory, officials tested 54 food items, including dairy products, spices, and cereals. Nine of these items failed to meet required safety standards, leading to the issuance of notices to the responsible parties. Additionally, samples of prepared food were collected for further testing.
