DoorDash report identifies cities where cheeseburger meals remain under $15

A recent DoorDash State of Local Commerce report reveals significant regional disparities in the cost of a standard fast-food meal consisting of a cheeseburger, fries, and a soda. According to the company's "Cheeseburger Index," only four analyzed U.S. cities maintain an average price below $15 for this combination.

Austin, Texas, was identified as the most affordable city with an average price of $12.94. Other cities meeting the sub-$15 threshold include Laredo, Texas ($13.39), Lincoln, Nebraska ($13.86), and Detroit, Michigan ($14.99). Philadelphia followed closely at $15.41.

In contrast, Anchorage, Alaska, recorded the highest average cost at $28.28, more than double the price found in Austin. The report noted that while beef prices have risen, the overall 3.2% increase in the average price of this meal combo over the past year is largely driven by broader operating costs, such as labor, rent, and energy.
