Doosan invests 970 billion won in CCL to boost AI semiconductor capacity

Doosan is significantly expanding its semiconductor material business through massive investments totaling over 3.4 trillion won this year. A key component of this strategy is a 970 billion won investment in Copper Clad Laminate (CCL) production lines to meet rising demand for AI accelerators, network switches, and optical modules.

The investment will be distributed across South Korea, China, and Thailand. Specifically, Doosan will invest approximately 420 billion won in South Korea to expand optical module CCL lines and 550 billion won in China to build new facilities for AI accelerator and network switch CCLs. A previously announced 180 billion won investment in Thailand will focus on high-performance CCL for networking equipment. These facilities are expected to be operational by 2028.

In addition to CCL expansion, Doosan has strengthened its semiconductor vertical integration by acquiring a 70.6% stake in SK Siltron for 2.3 trillion won. This move provides the group with advanced silicon wafer manufacturing technology. Analysts suggest these aggressive moves, despite discussions regarding a potential slowdown in AI investment, reflect Doosan's confidence in the long-term growth of semiconductor demand and its goal to diversify revenue beyond its traditional heavy industry sectors.
