Dora Bakoyannis warns of European instability and defends New Democracy
Greek politician Dora Bakoyannis has addressed significant geopolitical and domestic political shifts. Regarding the European landscape, she expressed deep concern over the rise of the AfD party in Germany, noting its 44% support. She warned of the potential instability for Europe if major powers like Germany and France face political fragmentation.
Domestically, Bakoyannis defended the strategic direction of the New Democracy party under Kyriakos Mitsotakis. She drew a sharp distinction between New Democracy and any potential new political entity formed by former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, stating, “Mr. Samaras has his own, we have ours.” She argued that Mitsotakis’s firm stance is a “strategically correct move” intended to define the party’s political space and identity, asserting that New Democracy has the resilience to survive current challenges.
