Dorcas Afo-Toffey provides SHS scholarship support in Jomoro

Dorcas Afo-Toffey, the Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Minister of Transport, has launched the sixth edition of her annual scholarship initiative to support Senior High School (SHS) students. The program provided educational materials to 1,000 Form One students from 111 public and private schools within the constituency.

The support package included essential items such as trunks, wooden chop boxes, mattresses, exercise books, and mosquito nets. Afo-Toffey stated that the initiative aims to ensure that financial difficulties do not prevent brilliant students from pursuing their education, describing education as the “backbone of personal and national development.”

Edith Mary Hagan, the Jomoro Municipal Director of Education, noted that the assistance addresses the significant financial burden families face every September when students transition to secondary school. She highlighted that many students previously lacked basic necessities like bedding, sometimes being forced to sleep on bare floors. The Paramount Chief of the Western Nzema Traditional Area, Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III, commended the program as a “life-changing initiative.” Afo-Toffey pledged to sustain the program beyond her time in office and intends to expand the number of beneficiaries next year.
