Dordrecht construction halted by discovery of old quay wall

Construction on the Spuiboulevard Oost in Dordrecht has been halted following the discovery of an old quay wall. The wall was found during excavation work intended for a new water storage sewer.

Because of groundwater pressure, the wall cannot be immediately removed. The municipality stated that while the wall's location was known, the height of the masonry underground was unexpected. A technical solution is currently being developed, and necessary materials must be ordered before work can resume.

The municipality noted that the wall holds no archaeological value. To minimize traffic disruption during the pause, the road has been reopened to traffic in both directions. Bus services will maintain an adjusted schedule for the time being.
