Dorfkäserei Geifertshofen recalls cheese due to Listeria suspicion

Dorfkäserei Geifertshofen AG has issued a large-scale recall for several varieties of cheese following the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in a batch of Weinbauernkäse. As a precaution, the company is recalling six different varieties because other products stored in the same ripening cellar may be contaminated.

The affected products include Weinbauernkäse (Bioland), Weinbauernkäse mittelalt (Bioland), Wengert (Demeter), Alter Wengert (Demeter), Geifertshofener Classico (Bioland), and Schwäbischer Trollingerkäse (Bioland). The recall applies to all batches with a best-before date up to and including October 30, 2026. This includes both pre-packaged pieces and loose items from deli counters.

The cheese has been sold across all 16 German federal states through supermarkets such as Rewe, organic food stores, delicatessens, butcher shops, gastronomy establishments, and online retailers. Consumers are advised not to consume the products. Listeria infection can cause flu-like symptoms, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, and can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
