Dorin Șerdean acquitted of forgery charges in Bucharest

The Bucharest Tribunal has acquitted Dorin Șerdean, the former president of the Dinamo Bucharest football club, of charges involving document forgery. The case originated from an investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) regarding the use of guarantee letters in public tenders co-financed by European FEDER funds.

The EPPO had initially alleged that approximately 12 million euros of EU funds were at risk, arguing that the Spanish company AMA Grupo Financiero Europeo, S. A., which issued the guarantees, was not a credit institution subject to Bank of Spain supervision, rendering the documents illicit.

However, the defense successfully argued that the company's activities complied with Spanish legal frameworks. The acquittal follows a coordinated legal strategy involving Spanish counsel to demonstrate the legality of the financial instruments used.
