General Dorin Ioniță found dead in Păulești

Romanian Army General Dorin Ioniță, former commander of the 'General Ioan Emanoil Florescu' Joint Forces Command, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in a building in Păulești, Prahova county.

Authorities are investigating the death, with suicide currently considered the primary hypothesis. A 9x19 mm pistol, which was legally owned by the general, was found near his body. The deceased was discovered by his brother-in-law after family members were unable to contact him.

The incident follows a report from the previous evening in which a 46-year-old woman claimed she had been physically assaulted by a man. Following this report, police in Voluntari issued a five-day provisional protection order against the general, requiring him to maintain a distance of at least 200 meters from the victim. During the night, the general's wife reported that he had left their home in possession of a pistol.
