Doris Ogala remanded in Lagos prison over cyberstalking charges

Nollywood actress and African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for Abia State, Doris Ogala, has been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre by a Federal High Court in Lagos. The remand follows her arraignment on charges including cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and attempted extortion of Pastor Chris Okafor.

Prosecution counsel Tolulope Mokolu alleged that between September 2024 and March 2026, Ogala intentionally published intimate photographs of Okafor without consent and disseminated false electronic messages to harass and intimidate him. The prosecution further claimed Ogala threatened to release more material unless the cleric provided financial compensation or purchased a house for her.

Ogala pleaded not guilty to the counts filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. During the proceedings, she accused Okafor of weaponizing the law against her. The AAC has condemned the court order, describing it as a threat to democratic participation and freedom of expression. Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also criticized the move, suggesting the Cybercrimes Act is being used to protect influential figures and criminalize private disputes.
