Dornbirn launches DIY bike‑trailer workshop to boost sustainable mobility

The city of Dornbirn, Austria, is hosting a hands‑on workshop on 2 September 2026 where participants can build their own 144‑liter, 50‑kg‑capacity bicycle cargo trailer. Under expert guidance, attendees assemble a lightweight aluminium‑frame trailer, customise the coupling to their own bike, and can take the finished unit home. Optional rain covers made from recycled truck tarps are also available.

The three‑hour session, run at the Werkhof Dornbirn, costs €280 and includes all materials. The initiative, part of the Pionierstadt Dornbirn program, aims to demonstrate climate‑friendly transport alternatives and encourage residents to replace short car trips with bike‑based solutions for shopping, gardening and other everyday loads.
