Dororo remains a legendary masterpiece in anime history

The manga series Dororo, created by Osamu Tezuka, remains a significant work in the history of anime and manga. Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday starting in August 1967, the series follows Hyakkimaru, a man born without limbs or organs due to a pact made by his father with demons. Equipped with prosthetic weapons, Hyakkimaru embarks on a journey through feudal Japan to hunt demons and reclaim his body.

While early adaptations struggled to fully realize the narrative, a 2019 adaptation produced by MAPPA and Tezuka Productions successfully utilized modern animation to depict the complete story. The series is noted for its dark, compelling narrative regarding the loss and reclamation of humanity.
