Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium renovations show signs of deterioration
Remodeling works at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium in Guatemala City are reportedly deteriorating despite payments exceeding Q10 million to the contractor, Bremar, S. A. Video evidence shared by Deputy José Chic shows cracks and crumbling sections in the facility, suggesting a lack of adequate maintenance following the initial works.
The project was left unfinished after the contract with Bremar was rescinded by the Confederación Deportiva Autónoma de Guatemala (CDAG) due to failure to meet the December 6, 2025, deadline. Reports indicate the project reached only 29% completion. The company had previously cited difficulties in obtaining materials as a reason for abandoning the works.
Legal actions are ongoing, with at least three criminal complaints filed regarding the case. While a new agreement was signed in March 2026 between the CDAG and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for a renovation estimated at Q63 million, no progress has been reported, and the stadium remains closed without a grass field or athletics track.
