Dorset girl hospitalized with Campylobacter after swallowing seawater

An eight-year-old girl, Keeva Hollow, was hospitalized after contracting a Campylobacter infection following a trip to Avon Beach in Dorset. The infection occurred after she swallowed a significant amount of seawater when hit by a wave while swimming with her twin sister.

Her mother, Aisling Mccarthy, reported that the child became lethargic with a high fever and loss of appetite the following morning. The condition escalated to include severe diarrhea with blood, prompting an emergency room visit. While the girl received intravenous treatment, she has struggled with lingering fatigue and reduced physical stamina.

Mccarthy expressed concerns regarding water safety and potential sewage pollution, noting that the child's symptoms mirrored those seen in cases of polluted seawater. The girl's twin sister, who was swimming at the same time, did not experience any health issues.
