Dorsten introduces digital locker for ID and passport collection
The city of Dorsten has introduced a new digital service for the collection of identity cards and passports through an automated document dispensing box. Located in the foyer of the town hall, this digital locker system functions similarly to parcel collection stations.
Citizens can choose this option during the application process by providing a mobile number. Once the document is ready, the user receives an SMS with a numeric code. The locker is opened using this code combined with the user's date of birth. This service is free of charge and provides access during the town hall's full opening hours, offering more flexibility than traditional service desk hours.
When collecting a new document, users must deposit their old passport or ID card into a designated slot. For identity cards, the corresponding PIN is required for the process.
