Dorsten nursing services fear job losses and reduced care

Ambulant nursing services in Dorsten, Germany, are expressing concern over a proposed federal nursing reform known as the Pflegeneuordnungsgesetz. The reform, which the federal cabinet approved in draft form in late September, aims to stabilize long-term care insurance financially.

Local providers, such as Pflegedienst Albina, fear the changes will lead to job cuts and diminished support for patients. Specifically, the reform proposes eliminating the monthly relief amount of 131 euros for individuals with care level 1. Jelena Albjianic, owner of Pflegedienst Albina, anticipates having to lay off 11 of her 23 employees due to these changes.

Of the 170 customers served by Albina, 145 currently utilize the relief amount, with 95 using it exclusively. Providers note that losing this funding could disrupt standard care routines and reduce vital social contact for elderly patients. While local services face uncertainty, the Federal Employment Agency currently sees no immediate impact on the broader labor market.
