Dorsten to host community sing-along for German Unity Day
The city of Dorsten is participating in the nationwide initiative ‘Deutschland singt und klingt’ (Germany sings and sounds) to mark the Day of German Unity on October 3. Under the motto ‘Freedom, Unity, Hope,’ the event aims to promote democracy, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence through music.
Starting at 7:00 PM on the Dorsten marketplace, the event will feature a greeting from Mayor Tobias Stockhoff followed by a wide repertoire of songs, including spirituals, folk songs, ‘Amazing Grace,’ the European anthem, and the German national anthem. Local singers and choirs, led by mezzo-soprano and choir director Julia Nikolajczyk, will guide the public to form a large collective choir.
To facilitate participation, the city agency will distribute songbooks at the venue, though attendees are also encouraged to prepare using lyrics available online.
