Dorsten to repeat Technical Deputy election due to formal defect
The city of Dorsten has announced that the election for the position of Technical Deputy must be repeated due to a “formeller Mangel” (formal defect). The original election took place on July 15, 2026, where Thorsten Huxel defeated Alexander Michael Fischer with 27 out of 41 votes.
The municipal administration clarified that the defect pertains specifically to the voting procedure and does not affect the preceding application or placement process. The issue arose because the secret ballot was requested by seven members of the AfD faction, but updated municipal regulations effective November 1, 2025, require at least one-fifth of the council—nine out of the 44 members—to request a secret vote.
Thorsten Huxel was intended to succeed Holger Lohse, who is set to retire at the end of September.
