Dortmund main station evacuated following abandoned bag

An abandoned black sports bag triggered a security response at Dortmund main station on November 1. The incident led to the closure of two tracks and a platform after railway employees reported the item near tracks 26 and 31 around 5:55 PM.

Federal Police officers reviewed video footage, which showed a man leaving the bag at approximately 4:10 PM. Specialized bomb disposal units were called to the scene to X-ray and inspect the contents, which were ultimately deemed harmless.

Officers located the owner, a 34-year-old man from Bochum, on a different platform. A voluntary breathalyzer test indicated a blood alcohol level of over two per mille. Following the identification process, the man was issued a ban from the station and allowed to reclaim his property. The Federal Police have initiated an investigation and are considering cost recovery proceedings against him.
