Dortmund Police conduct traffic safety inspections
The Dortmund Police conducted targeted traffic safety inspections in Dortmund and Lünen as part of the European “Day Without Traffic Deaths.” The initiative aimed to increase road safety awareness and reduce accidents following statistics from 2025 that reported 371 pedestrian accidents, resulting in 47 serious injuries and two fatalities.
Officers established mobile and stationary checkpoints at high-traffic locations, including schools, Phoenixsee, and city centers. During manual inspections, authorities penalized 165 violations. Notable incidents included a delivery driver found transporting two toddlers without proper safety restraints. Additionally, automated speed measurements near primary schools and daycare centers recorded over 3,100 vehicles, with 112 drivers exceeding the speed limit.
