Dortmund to introduce minimum prices for ride-hailing services
The city of Dortmund will implement minimum pricing for rental car services starting September 1 to protect the local taxi industry from competition by ride-hailing platforms like Uber and Bolt.
Under the new regulation, ride-hailing providers are permitted to undercut official taxi rates by a maximum of 15 percent for short-term bookings. The city also noted that taxi prices are set to increase. This regulation follows a revision of previous attempts to implement similar rules, after a court declared a similar measure in Essen unlawful.
The move comes amid ongoing legal battles in North Rhine-Westphalia. Similar price-floor initiatives in Essen and Cologne have faced successful legal challenges from rental car companies, with Essen's plan currently suspended following a ruling by the Administrative Court of Gelsenkirchen.
