Dorukhan Büyükışık death: New indictment alleges murder and cover-up

A new 262-page indictment has been accepted and merged with the main case regarding the 2018 death of Dorukhan Büyükışık in the Narlıdere district of İzmir. The investigation, coordinated by the Unsolved Crimes Research Department under the Ministry of Justice, suggests that the death was not a suicide as previously thought, but a murder.

Evidence indicates that the victim may have been killed by being struck on the back with an iron bar. The indictment alleges that organized interventions occurred to cover up the crime, including the failure to preserve the crime scene, the delayed transfer of biological samples for testing, and technical manipulations of camera footage and location data.

Prosecutors are seeking prison sentences ranging from 6 months to 7.5 years for 26 defendants, 25 of whom are currently arrested. The defendants include the former Narlıdere District Police Chief, a police station chief, crime scene investigation officials, and partners of a construction company. Retired Major General Ethem Büyükışık, the victim's father, has been campaigning for justice for 8.5 years, alleging that 62 forensic medicine experts issued false reports on five separate occasions.
