Dosquebradas begins controlled demolition of Hotel Veneton
The municipality of Dosquebradas has begun the controlled demolition of the Hotel Veneton in the Los Naranjos sector. Due to the building's height and proximity to other structures, specialized equipment including a mobile crane and a suspended excavator with a demolition attachment is being used to dismantle the building progressively from the upper levels.
This intervention follows earthquake damage that necessitated technical evaluations of local buildings to mitigate risks to residents and neighboring structures. Mayor Roberto Jiménez Naranjo stated that while authorization has been granted for 20 buildings, the total number of structures requiring attention is much higher.
The Municipal Risk Management Council has recently approved 13 additional demolitions, bringing the total number of structures identified for intervention to 33. These include buildings in sectors such as Campestre C, La Graciela, and La Capilla. Due to limited municipal financial resources, authorities will prioritize interventions based on the level of threat, proximity to pedestrians, and impact on public services and road corridors.
