Dosquebradas Mayor reports fraud involving fake earthquake relief

Roberto Jiménez Naranjo, the mayor of Dosquebradas, has reported being the victim of a fraud involving fake earthquake relief supplies. Scammers allegedly impersonated a member of Congress to offer millions of pesos in aid and materials for families affected by the earthquake on August 10.

The scheme involved requesting money transfers to cover logistics and transportation costs for shipments supposedly coming from Bogotá. The mayor stated that the contact gained credibility because it appeared to come through institutional channels, involving officials from the Risaralda Governor's Office. The Governor of Risaralda, Juan Diego Patiño Ochoa, was also reportedly targeted by the same maneuver.

After the mayor authorized the transfer to cover freight costs, the perpetrators ceased all contact and the promised supplies never arrived. Authorities have been notified and are investigating the incident.
