Dosquebradas municipality advances solid waste management with international innovations

The municipality of Dosquebradas took part in the 25th International Congress on Integrated Waste Management in Bucaramanga, where representatives from Colombia, Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Canada and the United States presented circular‑economy models, AI‑driven digital traceability tools and methane‑capture technologies. Secretary of Agricultural Development and Environmental Management Kelly Johana Echeverry Tabares said the city aims to reduce landfill input, recover valuable materials and improve control over waste disposal.

Separately, a didactic proposal was developed for first‑grade students at the Montoya Gaviria school in Argentina, Huila and the Puerto Venus school in Nariño, Antioquia. The project, based on direct observation and surveys, teaches children how to classify, manage and reuse solid waste through playful, creative activities, aiming to foster early environmental stewardship.
